Since I can't assume that every one of you has read every issue of Aeon, I thought I'd give a rundown on the Aeon authors who have joined our tribe to date:

Tom Doyle ("The Garuda Bird," Aeon Three)

Rob Furey ("Space Invaders" (nonfiction) Aeon Three, and lots of upcoming science columns)

Joseph Haines ("Copper Angels," upcoming in Aeon Four)

Jeremy Minton ("The Wrong End of the Stick," Aeon Three)

Dana William Paxson ("The Buddha Lectures on Cosmology," Aeon Two)

Lawrence M. Schoen ("The Game of Leaf and Smile," upcoming in Aeon Four)

Gary W. Shockley ("Dali, at Age 26, Believing Himself to be Heavyweight Champion of the World," Aeon Two)

Pras Stillman ("Eyes the Color of Earth as Seen From Above," Aeon Two)

Jaime Voss ("Asha" (poem) upcoming in Aeon Five)

        Woo-Hoo! Welcome, Walter!

Walter sold us the longest story anyone will EVER sell us, the short novel "Logs," which is a freestanding excerpt from the third book in Dread Empire's Fall, The Orthodox War (though it was called Conventions of War at the time. Different title for British edition? Last-minute change?).

        Good to see you here.

Oh, and didn't you just win some award or other...?

Yeah, I did win this big chunk of lucite. I need to clear some space somewhere to plunk it down.

The book's been "Conventions of War" forever, but publishers' databases are never updated, I guess. Available this October wherever fine books are sold. And at Popular Prices, too!

Walter's space-grabbing dust-catcher also goes by the name Nebula for Best Novella ("The Green Leopard Plague," Asimov's), and I'm sure he'll find a nice place for it somewhere. Next time the Aeon editors are driving through New Mexico we'll roll down our windows somewhere north of Albuquerque and see if we can smell the lucite.

            Good work, W.

I hope the next time the Aeon editors drive through New Mexico they'll stop by the rancheria. That way, when they smell the lucite, they can leave nose prints.

Why do I immediately think of what Gardner Dozois would do with a line like "smell the lucite?"

Uh, I dunno, W... maybe... EXPERIENCE!

Just remember next time you see G. to call him "Cookie Pants." Or "Skippy." He'll know his past has come back to haunt him.
