OK, I'm going to go ahead and introduce myself then. My name's Tony and I'm a self-employed professional writer, technical by day, speculative by night. I'm based in Seattle where I live with my wife, 2 year old, and two cats.

So, you didn't just invite old people, right? We don't actually have to have experienced an Aeon to join? <grins>

    here's my personals add:
Frustrated writer, who never makes time to write and is currently employed by evil empire as techno-geek, seeks quite time to read Aeon and more Manda Scott.

Ultimate goal to be able to answer the question "what's on your night stand" with an answer that does not include hot-wheels, sippy cups, and "Go Dog Go."

    Hi,
Thanks for the invite. As one who actually HAS been around for a large chunk of an aeon, I aprreciate it.
    I notice some familiar names.
For me, I live in upsate NY with my wife. I have a tedious day job and I write. 30+ stories published or accepted for publication so far.

Geez, what a motley crew! (Heh.)

Recognize a lot of names here--too bad the Eds invited me in to ruin the neighborhood, though.

Ah, well, can't be helped. Glad to be here!

    Hi all,

I'm a tribe regular (mainly in political tribes) and a writer. I'm encouraged that a speculative magazine is building a Tribe presence and am interested in seeing how this shapes a community of writers and editors.

Perhaps, after perusing Aeon I'll submit something appropriate.

Well, I is here. About me? Jay Caselberg, a.k.a. James A. Hartley, also known as EBJ, Evil Brother James, The Cardinal and many other unrepeatables.

I'm probably not going to be frequent poster. Buried in books and revisions quite a bit. I can be found on LiveJournal as Agamisu.

    Thanks for inviting.

    Hi all,

I, like many others here, am a writer. I am not an Aeon writer yet; however, I will soon be a published writer. I made my first sale on *Tuesday* to the Cascadia Con anthology. I'm very, very excited about it.

Anyway, I'm happy to be invited here. I've been really impressed with Aeon -- the F&SF-fast response times, the friendly comments, the look of the webpage...the whole thing.

    Glad to be here,
    -Mary

Congrats. I wanted to send something to Cascadia this year, but didn't get to it in time--school schedule and kids... :(
Thanks for the invite, Bridget and Marti. I look forward to becoming part of this great community you've got going.

    Hello,
I just joined, after receiving an invite. My name's William Bolen (Bill). I'm a full-time refinery operator and part-time writer. I live in Carlyss, Louisiana, right on the bayou. Yes, I can see alligators out my back door. :-)
I'm 41 years old and only began writing in earnest a few years ago. I write horror, dark fantasy, and mainstream fiction. I also write speculative poetry. I've made a few sales of poetry and short fiction, but have yet to receive pro-rates for my short fiction - but I know it's coming.
    Glad to be here!

    Thanks for your invitation, Marti!

My specialties are prose, mathematics, abstract art, cryptology, linguistics, verse, and cosmology, with some teaching thrown in:

    Dana Paxson is my name,
And one world is my nation,
    Cyberspace my dwelling-place,
    The heart my destination...

Anyone recognizing the original over which this quatrain is sloppily plastered is welcome to yell out the name of its author, one of my all-time favorite writers... but if you'd prefer to encode your reply somehow to tease everybody further, do that instead.

You can spot me at danapaxson.com too.

With warm best wishes to Marti, Bridget, and the whole tribe,

    Dana

Anyone who can't spot the TWO slightly different originals upon which you have based your poem should be required to go back and attend Science Fiction 101 again, or SFWA Grand Masters' Seminar (and that's all the hint yer gettin' outta me...).

Our heartfelt welcome to Dana Paxson ("The Buddha Lectures on Cosmology," Aeon Two, plus some flash fiction forthcoming in future Aeons).

And welcome to all of you. What a great crowd!

Hey everyone. Now that I have a moment to actually introduce myself . . .

I'm a writer currently living on Capitol Hill in Seattle with a gorgeous view of the space needle from my writing desk. Come the end of this year, I'll be in Cleveland (don't ask.) :-)

I made my first sale in January of 2004 and have since made forty more, the best so far being my sale to Aeon, upcoming in the August issue.

    Hello,
Kathy Sedia is here. Thanks for the invite.

Jetse de Vries from The Netherlands here.

Thanks for the invite: I joined a bit late because I was still busy with the Interzone May E-slush pile.

Time permitting, I try to write (and sell) fiction myself.

      Therefore: lots of familiar names:

      Either from the IZ/TTA magazines and/or submission piles: Joseph Paul Haines, Eugie Foster (gracing TTA’s anniversay issue), Jay/James (second sale from the May E-slush pile, and I hope to announce more—although not from Jay—later on), Paul Martens, Jeremy Minton (I loved “Nails” in TTA 38), Mikal Trimm, Josh Rountree, Richard Parks, and Kathy Sedia;

      Or from the odd ToC we share: Eugie and James (a bit back in a rather unkown antho which I fondly remember because it was my first sale), and Mary L (I sold a story to Nortwest Passages: A Cascadian Odyssey, as wel!);

And apologies to those I overlooked.

Tom Doyle here -- thanks for the invite. I write SF and fantasy, and I've got a story in Aeon 3 called "The Garuda Bird." I live in DC, but hope to be visiting Seattle again soon. Enjoy!

    Hey, brilliant wimmen--

Thanks for the invite. Some interesting news--my job has just self-destructed under the influence of my eeevil and/or clueless manager (her name's Dawn, but she's known as Spawn by another who survived a run-in with her) and I think Gary's actually realized it's his turn to give me some time off.

It'll be good. I'm so tired. I've got a list of stuff I want to write but haven't been. We just have to make sure we have enough for the new roof and the electrical system upgrade so I might be contracting with the same company for a while after I quit but since I've been working 6-day weeks since January even cutting down to five would be great.

Oh, and the bum just sold another story to Gordon.

I don't like this living in a world I'm not a part of. I want to come home.

Congrats on the chance to write full-time for a while. The first time I had that chance I blew it, 'cause I had no discipline. Later I learned better. I know you'll make the most of it.

I hope so. I need some recuperation time, though. Amazing how I didn't like my job, I wanted to get out of it anyway, it was killing me because it's actually two jobs and my dorky manager won't admit it, and it still really stings that I haven't been able to pull it off.

I need some serious distance, as they say. And sleep. Sleep would be good.

PS--hey, Bridget--do you have more friends every time I log on? Wow.

Most of the people on here joined 'cause I sent them a link from my account. Every time one joins up I automatically get another friend. I'm really not all that friendly, normally... :)

    Thanks for the welcome!

I'm Tony (too), and I haven't been published in Aeon (yet). I'm just starting to dip my toe into professional writing, and it's been a good year. Sales of mystery and fantasy short stories (and 1 poem) to Shred of Evidence, OnSpec, Aoife's Kiss, and Abyss & Apex all this year. And I just found out I'm one of 8 Finalists in Writers of the Future contest last quarter...I'm going out of my mind waiting for the results.
